The central focus of this website is to uncover the language attitudes towards the Liverpool English variety known as ‘Scouse’, whilst providing a brief overview of the Scouse accent, an understanding of dialect features and the perceptions of the variety.
The study which was conducted by Mia Thornton, Matthew Mottram and Wala Kara Halak aims to gather an insight into the current language attitudes through the use of a questionnaire and was focused on the opinions of university students living in Liverpool.
The study used two videos of Liverpool speakers who possessed a strong Scouse accent to illustrate a true reflection of the accent to the participants. A further survey was created for inhabitants of Liverpool to gain an understanding of their own perceptions of the accent.
Edited by Mia Thornton & Matthew Mottram.
